Our Title I Night featured a special Dot Week tie-in inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book, The Dot! Students tested their guessing skills to see how many cheese balls were packed into the container. Shoutout to Harrison Reynolds in Mrs. Tuttle’s class for hitting the mark! Harrison won a bucket of cheese balls to enjoy at home and another bucket to share with his class. Super job, Harrison!
Teamwork in Action! A huge shout-out to our empowered leader, Kate Reilly, for stepping up and guiding our recent unit planning session!
Under her direction, these committed collaborators dove deep into our learning standards to design powerful, engaging lessons tailored for our students.

Our fourth graders have been learning about keystone animals and the important roles they play in our ecosystems. To wrap up our unit, we were excited to have Mr. Troy visit and teach us about honey bees!
Students learned how honey bees impact the environment and why protecting important species matters. This experience helped our students become Engaged Citizens by connecting their classroom learning to the world around them and understanding how we can all play a role in caring for our environment.
A big thank you to Mr. Troy for sharing his knowledge and helping bring our science learning to life!
What a fantastic turnout for Laugh & Learn Playdate and Be Well Workshop, hosted this month by Shearer Elementary Family Resource Center (FRC)! Families kicked off the evening sharing a delicious meal before diving into the fun.
Laugh & Learn Playdate (Ages 3–5): Our youngest learners got ready for school with a packed lineup of story time, catchy songs, and hands-on crafts—all centered around this month’s crisp theme: Wind & Fall! Huge thanks to the Clark County Public Library and the Extension Office for collaborating to make this happen. Every single family went home with a special gift.
While the little ones played, older students had plenty to do! The library hosted awesome fall-themed activities for kids ages 6 and up. Meanwhile, our 3rd–5th graders and their families attended the Be Well Workshop focused on Social Media and Internet Safety. A special thank you to Officers Jansen Thomas and Blake Smithson from the Winchester Police Department for sharing vital safety tips, addressing ongoing online concerns, and teaching kids what to do if they ever feel unsafe. To top it off and encourage everyone to unplug at bedtime, every student who attended the Be Well Workshop took home a brand-new pillow and pillowcase for a great night’s sleep!

What an incredible evening at Shearer! Last night’s Title 1 Night was a bright, bustling celebration of our school community and the joy of reading. The halls were filled with energy as families rocked their best pink outfits to honor our Dolly Parton-inspired theme and help us spread a lifelong love for literacy and foundational skills.
There was so much to do from the moment everyone walked through the doors. The Book Fair was open, giving students a chance to discover new stories, while Dolly-themed crafts kept little hands busy and creative. Every family took home a few fun surprises, including a free board game, a free book, and invisible ink pens to keep the learning and playing going at home. Parents were also able to sign their young children up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to keep free books rolling into their mailboxes every month.
On top of all the reading fun, families popped into their children's classrooms to see where the magic happens every day and caught up on their annual Online Registration (OLR). A big thank you goes out to all the wonderful staff who put this together and to every single family who came out to make the night so warm and special!
